Tyler Hicks, working from an MH-60 helicopter in the Gulf of Oman, as the first U.S. Navy sailors involved in the capture of 15 Somali pirates stop the pirates’ skiff. This was early in a busy shift. The sailors, from the U.S.S. Mobile Bay (seen in lower frame, left, watching over the small-boat boarding team), briefly detained the pirates and then let them go. Unwittingly, the pirates then led the Navy to their mother ship. If you hit the link in the previous sentence, you will see a photograph that Tyler was making in the third frame, among sailors from the U.S.S. Kidd as the captured pirates, the next morning, were being removed from the mother ship and taken into naval custody. I post all of this now because a few minutes ago I got off the phone with Tyler. We’re filling the calendar with the next trips. Looks to be a busy late winter and spring.
