Why is this man’s right hand twisted and scarred? And what shattered these rifles from within?

On the NYT, an examination of Syria’s tactic of salting rebel ammunition supplies with ordnance that explodes when fired, one of the dirtier tricks of the modern battlefield. A controversial practice in the current playbook of, among others, the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency, which secretly ran large boobytrapped ammunition programs in Iraq and runs them in Afghanistan to this day.
